Problems with interview

We arranged to do an interview with the manager of a bowling alley the interview was a success and he answered all the questions that were needed. However when we got back to school and uploaded the interview to the computer we realised that the microphone had not been switched on. So we had no sound throughout the interview. Unfortunately we could not reschedule this interview.

1.  How long have you been manager of the bowling alley and how did you get into the business?

2.  Do you enjoy working in the bowling alley?

3.  What’s your favourite thing about the bowling alley?

4.  How many bowling leagues do you have come in a week?

5.  Do you see bowling as more as a competitive thing or a social thing? Or both?

6.  What’s the most popular age group that attends the bowling alley? Is it families or young couples?

This is a interview we didn't end up using as the microphone was not plugged in correctly. Instead of re-scheduling this interview with her we decided to use somebody else but use the same framing for the interview.

This was one of our first trips out the bowling ally this is Steven and Gabby positioning the camera correctly onto the tripod.

The bowling ally that we did our filming in had very dark lighting so we used this LCD light when doing interviews to make the interview much brighter so the lighting looked better.

Planning

Opening sequence story board.

Firstly when beginning to create our documentary we had to plan our opening sequence which we made by creating a story board. We decided that we would use professional league bowler Steven Swaby to open our documentary. By using different shots of him bowling including close ups and medium close ups. We decided that he would role the ball down the lane in slow motion. then the sweep would come down and the title would appear " roll with it ".

Before filming the interviews we decided that we would plan our framing for each interview so that each frame looked professional and so each frame was different so it looked eye catching and didn't bore the audience.

Documentary – Roll With It
Channel: Channel 4
Scheduling: Tuesday 9^th January 2014 at 7.30pm – 8.00pm
Duration: 27 minutes (including advert break)

Opening – Montage of people bowling with voice over	30 seconds
We will open the documentary by having a close-up of Steve’s face in which he is concentrating where he will roll the ball	3 seconds
We will then cut to a long shot of Steve getting ready to take his shot, in which he is posing and getting his positioning right	3 seconds
We will then cut to another long shot of Steve from the back in which he has taken in shot and is beginning to walk back	3 seconds
Next, we will cut to the ball rolling down the lane ready to strike the bowling pins	3 second
Then, the shot will cut to the ball hitting the pins and it will cause a strike. Once the strike has appeared, the shutter which clears the pins away will swipe down and the title ‘Roll With It’ will appear	7 seconds
History of Bowling – The voice over begins and information about the history of bowling begins. During this there will be old pictures and video clips appearing which will feature bowling from the past including bowling leagues and titles	15 seconds
Voxpops - After the opening, we will then cut to Voxpops of numerous people answering questions in which the mise-en-scene will be on the complex of New Brighton which is a very busy area	10 seconds
We will have Archive material of “let’s go bowling”- a glimpse of bowling once upon a time	30seconds
Archive material of 2013 PBA Don Carter classic title match”	30 Seconds
Montage of bowling again talking about its popularity today	6 seconds
Interview Number One - After the talk of past bowling leagues, we interview Steve the (league bowler 7th best in England) whilst he is talking, we will use cut aways of Steve bowling the ball down the lane striking the pins.	1 minute 6 seconds
Establishing/panning shot of the bowling lanes talking about why people come bowling	7 seconds
Before interview number two features, we will do a quick cut away of the bar in which the voiceover will talk about how people like to enjoy beverages during bowling games.	6 seconds
Interview Number Two - We will then cut to the interview with George talking about why he comes bowling and what else he does when he comes bowling. Whilst George is speaking we will use cut away of George playing pool and playing laser quest with his friends	2 minute 10 seconds
Voice over of health and safety when playing bowling whilst a cut away of the lanes getting oiled and glossed.	5 seconds

Interview Number Three - Cut to interview with Lennie about his job and what his job consists of whilst Lennie is talking his job and what it involves we will use cut away of him fixing the machines at the back of the bowling lanes.	2 minutes 40 seconds
We will then cut back to Steve interview talking about his trophies and achievements. We will use cut aways of Steve showing us his trophies Steve playing bowling with his top that says “Steve Swaby”.	1 minute
ADVERT BREAK	3 minutes
We will then cut to an interview with Niall talking about why he does not take part in bowling anymore	1 minute 40 seconds
We will then cut to a panning shot of the bowling ally	3 seconds
We will then cut to an interview with the second technician- Dave who will talk about health and safety of bowling, the dangers of bowling, the worst accident he has ever had whilst working and fixing the lanes.	1 minutes 50 seconds

Whilst having cuts of laser quest the bar and the arcades	4 seconds

We will then cut to an interview with the cooks in the kitchen talking about what type of people they think are mostly like to come bowling  and if they see bowling as a social or competitive sport	2 minutes
We will then cut to an interview with the manager of Riverside bowling alley David Newton who talks to us about what he provides for the public at his bowling alley. Also what type of people come to the bowling alley and if sees bowling as a social or competitive sport. We will have cut aways whilst the interview is taking place of the public playing bowling.	2 minutes 40 seconds
We will then cut to an interview with Parents who take their children bowling for their birthday parties they tell us about why they choose bowling.	1 minute
We then cut to a cutaway of Children playing bowling at their birthday parties	20 seconds
